Academic Intensive English Program (ESL)
Our ESL program offers many options and services for the language learner. We have I-20 programs in full-time ESL, intensive TOEFL, and intensive GMAT/GRE. Part-time classes (daytime and evening) include offerings in business English, conversation, writing and reading, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and public speaking. If you prefer customized instruction, personal tutoring is an option. We also offer academic advisement to help you meet your long-term educational goals and apply to a degree program. Free after-class activities such as workshops, a tutoring center, conversation hour, and field trips promote fluency and cultural enrichment. Finally, as our student, you also have access to campus services like the Baruch library, health center, gym, and computer lab.
The Baruch dorm is located on the Upper East Side, at 1760 Third Avenue. There are double and triple rooms available, each with a private bathroom. The dorm has the following services: 24-hour security, live-in residence advisors, fully-furnished rooms, AC, refrigerator and microwave, cable tv, the internet, laundry, library, shared kitchen, meeting rooms and lounges, fitness center, and public computers.

Academic Intensive English Program Courses
The Academic Intensive English Program is designed to help prepare non-native English speakers for college or graduate school in the U.S. Students receive 20 hours per week of instruction in writing, reading, listening, and speaking. Additionally, students choose a daytime elective from a unique menu of courses, including grammar, TOEFL preparation, public speaking, pronunciation, business English, and more.Writing
This course provides students with the skills needed for effective writing in academic and professional settings. The writing process is emphasized, with a focus on organization and the development of ideas within paragraphs and essays.Reading
This course is designed to help students become more confident and proficient readers in English. Students explore a variety of genres (articles, websites, short stories, etc.) and reading skills (vocabulary-building, summarizing, critical thinking, etc.).Listening and Speaking
This course is designed to help students develop fluency, accuracy, and clear pronunciation in spoken English. In addition, students work on their listening skills through activities with audio and visual materials, dialogue practice, role-play, and note-taking.Electives
Students also choose 1 or 2 electives from our General ESL, Business ESL or ESL Test Prep programs. Courses may include Grammar, Vocabulary & Idioms, Academic Vocabulary, Pronunciation, Accent Reduction, Public Speaking, Understanding the Business World, Skills for Academic Success, iBT TOEFL preparation, and CUNY Assessment Test (CAT-W and CAT-R) preparation.ESL Test Prep
The Center for English Language provides high quality, interactive preparation courses for the CUNY Assessment Test (CAT-W and CAT-R), GMAT, GRE, and iBT TOEFL. Flexible schedules allow students to study during the day or evening. These courses are taught by experienced and caring instructors, who help students gain confidence and build their test-taking strategies. Intensive 5-week courses, which meet 20 hours per week, are also offered for the GMAT, GRE, and iBT TOEFL. Students in these courses may qualify for an F-1 international student visa. To register for ESL Test Prep courses, students must take the placement test. Students who place into levels 5-10 may take any of our ESL Test Prep courses. Academic Intensive English Program Refund Policy
Refund requests must be dated and submitted in writing. Attach a copy of your payment receipt with the Refund Request Form. Processing refunds requires approximately six weeks. All refunds may also be requested as a credit for any class of equal tuition. Full tuition will be refunded if request is received at least two business days before the first class meeting.
